Remembering Judit Fellegi

Deena Dlusy-Apel

I had met Judit before, but my strongest early memory of her dates back to the historic 1st National Breast Cancer Conference in Kingston in 1997. She came by herself, arriving on the Friday evening while my partner, Max, and I arrived from Waterloo where we were living at the time. We connected immediately and frolicked with her all weekend, enjoying getting to know her mischievous self.

Since then, Judit and I managed to make a little time for each other despite our busy lives. We have marched together at BCAM demonstrations, danced, done yoga, walked dogs, and enjoyed quiet talks about children, family, books and life. I have gone to artisan fairs where Judit was displaying her beautiful work. Once, she even had me doing spirit song!

It was a privilege to know Judit and my memories of a strong, beautiful, creative and exciting woman will stay with me forever. We hope to stay in touch with her husband, David, her sons, Zachary and Kai, and keep them as friends. I know that many of our members will miss Judit's presence at BCAM events and meetings.

BCAM member Judit Fellegi died at the end of May.
