Update on the FemmeToxic Project
Emilou Kinsella
The new project of the Safe Cosmetics Campaign is off to a beautiful start! 'FemmeToxic,' a collaborative effort between BCAM members and younger people from the Montreal community, was chosen to receive a supportive grant of $5,000 from the Solstice Foundation.
Five volunteer interns sit on an Advisory Committee — with BCAM board members, regular members, and employees of the Girls Action Foundation (GAF) — to oversee the project. In addition to their volunteer work on this committee, three interns also do paid work for BCAM: Emilou Kinsella, Madeline Cronin and Karla Ekdom-Delorme, students at the McGill School of Environment. These three are developing the content for FemmeToxic's website, writing a 'zine' (a small circulation publication of original or appropriated texts/images), preparing workshops on safe cosmetics, and doing publicity about the group's activities. The other two volunteers, Stephanie Najjar and Rosario Gallardo, will assist in writing website material. The launch of the website will take place on September 16th at Creative Boost (at Sherbrooke and Parc Avenue).
As communications director for this project, I would like to express how grateful I am to be part of FemmeToxic. It has been a pleasure working with BCAM and meeting such amazing women (younger and older!). Thank you to BCAM for its support for this project.
