Breast Cancer Prevention in Action!
BCAM’s new workshop project

Members of BCAM’s speakers bureau have been presenting Breast Cancer As We See It to community groups and in classrooms since 2005. It’s a far-reaching look at breast cancer prevention and environmental links to the disease. Audiences love the power point presentation, and requests keep pouring in.

At the same time, as the two-year-long Health and Environmental Awareness Project concluded, we were looking for ways to use the project’s excellent resources on toxic ingredients in cosmetics and their relationship to cancers in Canada.

And so, in September, 2007, the Breast Cancer Prevention in Action project (BCPA) was born.

We have designed a project that will continue through 2008, offering new and updated workshops to a variety of audiences, including many in communities we haven’t visited so far. The project is funded by la Fondation Solstice and Human Resources & Social Development Canada (through the New Horizon’s Program for Seniors).

We recognize that in general, the breast cancer prevention message has reached a fairly homogenous population. The mission of BCPA is to change that by working with women and girls from diverse socio-economic, cultural and racial backgrounds in their communities. We hope to broaden BCAM’s impact by sharing our fundamental message: Breast cancer doesn’t have to happen.
